Select Committee on Procedure of the House Third Report

INTRODUCTIONS

11.  Given the prospect of new creations of peers, the Committee has considered the days appropriate to Introductions. We recommend replacing the current Companion guidance "introductions should be confined to Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays" (paragraph 1.13) with "introductions normally take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays". The case for avoiding, though not excluding, Wednesdays, is that an Introduction would take more time out of a day which has been shortened by the decision to sit at 3pm. There is no reason not to permit Thursdays, now that the House sits in the morning. An Introduction on a Wednesday would be exceptional.
