The House met at eleven o’clock.

PRAYERS were read by the Lord Bishop of Portsmouth.

Judicial Business

1.  Wilson (Respondent) v. Jaymarke Estates Limited and another (Appellants) (Scotland)—The petition of the appellants praying that the time for lodging the statement and appendix and setting down the cause for hearing might be extended to 5th June (the agents for the respondent consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed.

2.  Al-Skeini and others (Respondents) v. Secretary of State for Defence (Appellant)—

    The petition of the appellants praying that the time for lodging the statement and appendix and setting down the cause for hearing might be extended to 12th June (the agents for the respondents consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed.

4.  Negative Instruments—The following instruments were laid before the House and ordered to lie on the Table:

    1.  Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Air Pollution from Ships) Order 2006, laid under the Merchant Shipping Act 1995;    (1248)

    2.  Scotland Act 1998 (Agency Arrangements) (Specification) Order 2006, laid under the Scotland Act 1998;    (1251)

    3.  Merchant Shipping (Oil Pollution) (Supplementary Fund Protocol) Order 2006, laid under the Merchant Shipping (Pollution) Act 2006.    (1265)

Public Business

5.  Churches and cities—It was moved by the Lord Archbishop of Canterbury that there be laid before the House papers relating to the role of the churches in the civic life of towns and cities, the churches’ partnership with other bodies and the part they play in addressing the problems of deprivation; after debate, the motion was (by leave of the House) withdrawn.

The House was adjourned at twenty-five minutes before four o’clock to Monday next, half-past two o’clock.
