Make
provision for the establishment of a Royal Commission on slavery. |

Be
it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty,
by and with the advice and |
|
|
consent of the Lords Spiritual
and Temporal, and Commons, in this present |
|
|
Parliament assembled,
and by the authority of the same, as follows:— |

Establishment
of Royal Commission |
|
|
(1) |
Within four months of
the coming into force of this Act, the Secretary of State |
|
|
shall cause to be established
a Royal Commission on slavery. |
|
|
(2) |
The Royal Commission shall
enquire into the subject of slavery, including its |
|
|
social, economic and political
impact, and report on possible means for its |
|

(3) |
For the purposes of this
Act, “slavery” includes all existing forms of exercising
|
|
|
absolute control over another
person’s life or liberty. |
|
|
(4) |
The Royal Commission shall
report within three years of the coming into force |
|
|

Short
title and commencement |
|
|
(1) |
This Act may be cited as
the Royal Commission (Slavery) Act 2007. |
|
|
(2) |
This Act shall come into
force at the end of the period of two months beginning |
|
|
on the day on which it
is passed. |
