Prisons: Concerted Indiscipline

Baroness Stern asked Her Majesty's Government:

The Minister of State, Home Office (Baroness Scotland of Asthal): Over the past 12-month period there have been 120 acts of concerted indiscipline in England and Wales. The following table sets out the number of acts of concerted indiscipline, both active and passive, broken down by prison.

An act of concerted indiscipline is an incident in which two or more prisoners act together in defiance of a lawful instruction or against the requirements of the regime of the establishment. The indiscipline may be active or passive and those involved may not necessarily be acting in a common cause.
