AGREEMENT

Thank you for the Explanatory Memorandum dated
23 March 2006 which Sub-Committee C considered at its meeting
on 30 March. The Sub-Committee agreed to clear the document from
scrutiny.
We would like to emphasise the importance of
Stabilisation and Association Agreements as part of the process
of bringing the countries of the Western Balkans closer towards
eventual membership of the EU and recognise their immediate impact
on increasing stability within the region. We accordingly welcome
the conclusion of this Agreement with Albania.
We do, however, note the ongoing challenge of
tackling organised crime in Albania and stress that the EU should
continue to regard this as one of its priorities in the monitoring
and implementation of this Agreement.
