Sub-Committee D (Environment and Agriculture)
has considered the Commission's Communication on this subject,
together with your Explanatory Memorandum.
In our view this is a subject of considerable
importance and we are pleased to see that there is broad consensus
among Member States on the need for action and that the Government's
response to the proposed strategy is generally favourable, with
most of the key actions it recommends being already provided for
in existing UK policy instruments. We are content therefore to
clear the document, noting that the Commission will report annually
on progress. We would wish to be kept informed of progress and
of other developments.
