APPENDIX: TRIBUTES
It is the duty of the Leader of the House to bring
forward, on their death, the names of certain categories of peers,
for the usual channels to consider whether tributes should be
paid in the House. It is open to the usual channels to agree,
or not, to pay tributes in particular cases.
In alphabetical order, the categories are:
Archbishops of Canterbury and York (former or serving)
Chairmen of Committees (who die in office)
Convenors of the Crossbenches (former or serving)
Leaders of the House (former or serving)
Leaders of the Liberal Democrats (former or serving)
Leaders of the Opposition (former or serving)
Lord Chancellors (former or serving)
Lord Speakers (former or serving)
Peers who have held Cabinet office as members of
the House of Lords
Prime Ministers (former or serving)
