Lord Hylton to ask Her Majesty’s Government why they will not make an exception to the general policy of not assisting non-British nationals in the case of the former British residents held for a long time without charge or trial at Guantanamo Bay; and whether they have made an assessment of the effect that offering to accept the return of some or all of these detainees might have on the early closure of the detention centre. Lord Hylton to ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they have authorised the export to the Sudan of mobile helipads, made by Vaughan’s of Leicester (Aerosystems) Ltd; if so, why, in view of the use of helicopters to attack civilians in Darfur, this export licence has been granted; and whether sanctions against Sudan have been contravened. Lord Janner of Braunstone to ask Her Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of the impact that the proposed removal of the sibling criterion for certain state schools will have for parents and children, in terms of (a) the number of school journeys; (b) the length of travel time of those journeys; and (c) any logistical difficulties in relation to different schools having different term dates and inset days.
