9   Business of the House The Lord President (Baroness Amos) moved that the debate on the motion in the name of Lord Howe of Aberavon set down for today shall be limited to 3 hours and that in the name of Lord Inglewood to 2 hours. The motion was agreed to.

10   Government: civil service and judiciary (3-hour debate) Lord Howe of Aberavon moved for papers relating to the conduct of the machinery of government and to the role of an independent civil service and judiciary. After debate, the motion was withdrawn.

11   Waste strategy Lord Rooker repeated a ministerial statement made in the House of Commons.

12   Public services: rural areas (2-hour debate) Lord Inglewood moved for papers relating to the state of the countryside and to the provision of public services in rural areas. After debate, the motion was withdrawn.

13   Mobile Phone Charges (EUC Report) Lord Freeman moved that this House takes note of the Report of the European Union Committee on Mobile Phone Charges in the EU: Curbing the Excesses (17th Report, HL Paper 79). After debate, the motion was agreed to.

The House adjourned at 6.16pm until Monday 4 June at 2.30pm.
