7681. MS LIEVEN: I think I should put
on record the Promoter's extreme thanks to all the efforts of
people behind the scenes to reduce the list of 25 Petitioners
in a week down to, I think, four appearances.
7682. CHAIRMAN: Yes, we appreciate it
too!
7683. MS LIEVEN: I hope the Committee
understand why things change so quickly in these circumstances.
We are doing our absolute best to minimise the work. My Lords,
in the light of your Lordship's comments yesterday morning about
the railway Petitioners, we are intending to come back tomorrow
and give your Lordships and your Ladyship a statement of where
we are on that.
7684. CHAIRMAN: That would be very helpful.
The Secretary of State presumably wants to get Royal Assent to
this Bill at the end of July so there is good reason to get a
move on with all of this.
7685. MS LIEVEN: Absolutely, my Lord,
yes.
7686. CHAIRMAN: Are we likely to be wanted
in the afternoon to listen to any of this, or will we finish in
the morning?
7687. MS LIEVEN: Tomorrow?
7688. CHAIRMAN: Yes.
7689. MS LIEVEN: I do not think I can
say with any certainty that the Committee will not be needed in
the afternoon: it really depends on St Barnabas. At the moment
I fear there is a good prospect that the Committee might be needed
in the afternoon.
7690. CHAIRMAN: Anyway, we will be ready.
