Technical Certificates
24. We are concerned that, with the removal of
the Technical Certificates in some National Vocational Qualifications
(NVQs), apprenticeships are being "dumbed down", just
as the Government is seeking to persuade more people that apprenticeships
are worthwhile qualifications. The Secretary of State said that
the technical certificates had only been removed where they were
duplicating almost exactly the same material as the vocational
qualification (Q 25). Even if this is correct, we remain
concerned that it may devalue apprenticeships in the eyes of some
potential applicants and employers.
