Correspondence with Ministers October 2006 to April 2007 - European Union Committee Contents

EUROPEAN REGULATORY AGENCIES (7032/05)

Letter from the Chairman to Rt Hon Geoff Hoon MP, Minister for Europe, Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Thank you for your letter of 25 July 2006[91] which was considered by Sub-Committee E at its meeting on 11 October. We note that there has been no progress on the Commission's proposal since last year and are grateful for your assurance that you will keep the Committee informed of any future developments.

We also note that the Government are currently considering the vires issues underlying the proposal to create European Regulatory Agencies and you draw attention to work being undertaken following the recent ruling of the European Court in Case C-217/04. We look forward to receiving a detailed Note from the Government in the near future. This is an issue which the Committee may wish to discuss at the meeting on 1 November.

The Committee decided to retain the proposal under scrutiny.
