Select Committee on European Union Minutes of Evidence

Examination of Witnesses (Questions 637 - 639)

THURSDAY 6 DECEMBER 2007

Ms Dalia Grybauskaite

Q637  Chairman: Good morning, it is very nice to see you.

Ms Grybauskaite: You are not the first and will not be the last who are interested in our exercise on the future budget reform. Usually what comes from your country and your Parliament, the House of Lords, as reports are very good quality proposals and papers and we use them. I am very happy you are investigating into this subject and you will be preparing something for us which we will use. You will receive something from us now and we will use your paper later.

Q638  Chairman: Just tell us what you want us to say!

  Ms Grybauskaite: Of course.

Q639  Chairman: Thank you very much, Commissioner, for finding time to meet with us and to help us in our inquiry. As you know, we are a Sub-Committee of the European Union Committee of the House of Lords carrying out this investigation into the Health Check and looking beyond the Health Check to the Budget Review and the future evolution of the CAP. I always have to say formal things. For us, this is a formal evidence taking session so there will be a record.

Ms Grybauskaite: I need to understand that I can only say what can be written and I will leave the rest in my pocket.
