| Protected characteristics: Sharia courts |
(1) | Within two months of the end of each calendar year the Secretary of State must commission a report on the judgments of Sharia courts in the United Kingdom made in the past year and the compatibility of those judgments within the provision in this Bill. |
(2) | A report under subsection (1) must in particular contain |
(a) | details of the sorts of cases most commonly dealt with in Sharia courts; |
(b) | details of the judgments given in a proportionate sample of those cases; and |
(c) | details of whether those judgments appear to adversely affect any group who share a particular protected characteristic under this Act. |
(3) | The Secretary of State must lay the report before Parliament within twelve months of the end of the calendar year in question." |

| Civil partnerships on religious premises |
(1) | The Civil Partnership Act 2004 is amended as follows. |
(2) | Omit section 6(1)(b) and section 6(2). |
(3) | In section 6A, after subsection (2), insert |
"( ) | Regulations under this section may provide that premises approved for the registration of civil partnerships may differ from those premises approved for the registration of civil marriages." |
(4) | In section 6A, after subsection (3), insert |
"( ) | For the avoidance of doubt, nothing in this Act places an obligation on religious organisations to host civil partnerships if they do not wish to do so."" |
