Prayers were read by the Lord Bishop of Chelmsford.
1 Speaker of the House of Commons The Lords Commissioners being seated, the Lord Privy Seal (Baroness Stowell of Beeston) in the middle with the Lord Speaker (Baroness D’Souza) and Baroness Royall of Blaisdon on her right and Lord Laming and Lord Wallace of Tankerness on her left and the Commons being present at the Bar with the Speaker-Elect, the Right Honourable Mr John Bercow, the said Speaker-Elect was presented and approved by the Lords Commissioners (by command of Her Majesty).
2 Deaths of Lords The Lord Speaker informed the House that the following members of the House had died:

4 Lord Simpson of Dunkeld The Clerk of the Parliaments informed the House that he had received written notice from Lord Simpson of Dunkeld under section 1 of the House of Lords Reform Act 2014 stating that he would retire from the House on 30 July 2015.
