Memorandum submitted by Corona Energy
Corona Energy (Corona) welcomes the opportunity
to comment to the Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Committee
on possible anti-competitive behavior in the UK's energy market.
Corona is a shipper and supplier in the UK Industrial and Commercial
gas market and also offers a range of energy services including
an industry leading AMR service.
Corona relies on liquid wholesale markets to
ensure the prices it can offer its customers are as competitive
as possible and therefore welcomes the Business, Enterprise and
Regulatory Reform Committee's interest in this area.
Corona also welcomes the investigation into
possible anti-competitive behaviour in the UK's supply markets.
While Corona does not have any evidence of anti-competitive behaviour
it recognises the importance of effective competition to ensure
consumers have access to fair prices and to be an incentive for
good service.
Following a number of recent appeals of GEMA
decisions, Corona are interested in the views of the Business,
Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Committee on the effectiveness
of regulatory oversight of the energy market. Corona are particularly
interested to know whether the Business, Enterprise and Regulatory
Reform Committee believe the level and complexity of regulation
has inadvertently become a significant barrier to entry to the
energy markets.
If the committee would like to discuss the issues
raised in this response in greater detail then please contact
Richard Street (details above) who will be happy to help you.
