Supplementary memorandum submitted by
the Department for International Development
I know that one of the issues that the International
Development Committee has looked at as part of its inquiry into
the World Bank is the structure of the UK delegation office.
Ahead of the evidence that Shriti Vadera will
give to the Committee on the 10 January, I wanted you to know
that it has been decided by the Government that in future the
UK will have a full-time Executive Director to the Bank and a
separate full-time Executive Director to the IMF.
The UK will retain a single office, which will
enable us to continue to take a consistent approach to handling
issues that arise in and/or affect both institutions.
The World Bank senior management strongly supports
this change. Like us, they expect it to facilitate an even more
effective partnership. This is particularly important to me in
light of the announcement I made last month on our contribution
to the IDA 15 replenishment.
