Public Business

2    Pensions: responsible investment A question was asked by Lord Harrison and answered by Lord McKenzie of Luton.

3    Allotments A question was asked by Baroness Sharples and answered by Baroness Andrews.

4    Road safety A question was asked by Lord Dubs and answered by Lord Bassam of Brighton.

5    Aircraft: luggage A question was asked by Lord Dykes and answered by Lord Bassam of Brighton.

6    Business of the House Lord Rooker, on behalf of the Lord President (Baroness Ashton of Upholland), moved that the debate on the motion in the name of Lord Wallace of Saltaire set down for today shall be limited to 3 hours and that in the name of Lord Greaves to 2 hours. The motion was agreed to.

7    Armed Forces: United States missile defence (3-hour debate) Lord Wallace of Saltaire moved for papers relating to the United Kingdom’s commitment to participate in the United States missile defence system, and to the implications of recent negotiations between the United States and other states for the deployment of that system. After debate, the motion was withdrawn.

8    Energy policy Lord Jones of Birmingham repeated a ministerial statement made in the House of Commons.

9    Local government: community empowerment (2-hour debate) Lord Greaves moved for papers relating to the Action Plan for Community Empowerment: Building on success and to the case for more initiatives to build sustainable local democratic structures and communities. After debate, the motion was withdrawn.

10    China: human rights A question was asked by Lord Alton of Liverpool and, after debate, answered by Lord Malloch-Brown.

The House adjourned at 6.25pm until Monday 14 January at 2.30pm.

Grand Committee Business

The Grand Committee met in the Moses Room at 2.00pm.

Dormant Bank and Building Society Accounts Bill [HL] The Grand Committee further considered the bill, beginning with amendment 34. An amendment was agreed to. The Committee adjourned after amendment 59.

The Committee adjourned at 5.53pm.
