8520. CHAIRMAN: I had better leave it
for you to negotiate with the Promoters.
8521. MR EVANS: Very well, my Lord. That
concludes the case for ATOC.
8522. CHAIRMAN: Thank you very much.
Mr Elvin, that is all the Petitions for today, is it?
8523. MR ELVIN: Yes. I think a few Petitions
remain for tomorrow, some of which may yet go, but I think you
will be hearing, at least, from Mr Mould and Mr Taylor on Tilford
Land and the London Borough of Havering. There may be residual
matters to deal with with Tarmac and Aggregate Industries, but
I do not think we are expecting them to appear. Mr Walker says
not. I did hear a vicious rumour that BAA had withdrawn earlier,
but Mr Walker cannot confirm that.
8524. Can I mention to the Committee something
you will recall that the Committee considered in connection with
the Spitalfields area and the Hanbury Street shaft. The issue
was raised regarding whether or not safety parameters would be
agreed which would dispense with the need for the Hanbury Street
ventilation and intervention shaft. I mention this now because
I gather that TfL are proposing to issue some statement tomorrow
in response to a request from a local authority councillor which
is going to reiterate the position that TfL expects the issue
to be resolved. The difficulty is that it advances the issue no
further because we have yet to have the sign-off that we require
from the emergency services. It is all very well for TfL to give
expressions of hope, but until matters can be advanced with the
emergency services, of course, we are still in the same position
we were in before the Committee. I merely raise that in case Members
of the Committee see it reported in the news and think that some
breakthrough has been made. The position, as I understand it,
has not changed since the position explained to the Committee.
8525. CHAIRMAN: We are definitely revisiting
Spitalfields at some stage, anyway, are we not?
8526. MR ELVIN: The week after next,
I believe.
8527. CHAIRMAN: That might be the moment
to try and get this one cleared up.
8528. MR ELVIN: Indeed. My Lords, other
than that, I do not think there is any further business for this
afternoon.
8529. CHAIRMAN: Very well, we will resume
