Examination of Witnesses (Questions 11860
- 11879)
11860. MS KHELA: It is in these documents.
11861. MR ELVIN: Can you tell me where
please? (After a short pause)
11862. CHAIRMAN: You want all these undertakings
to be recommended to the Promoters, do you?
11863. MS KHELA: Yes. We would like the
Committee to recommend those because if this Bill is passed in
its present form we believe we will suffer unnecessarily with
this alignment.
11864. CHAIRMAN: I do not mind about
the reasoning. What I want to know is, are you asking us to recommend
all these undertakings?
11865. MS KHELA: I apologise.
11866. CHAIRMAN: You could have told
us this, you know, over an hour ago.
11867. MS KHELA: Unfortunately as we
are here presenting a matter which we thought was very important
and which we believe will not go away for the Spitalfields community
we thought it prudent to raise it. (After a short pause)
11868. The undertakings are listed on pages
2 to 3. I was merely putting forward the reasons why we are requesting
those undertakings. I am not sure if the Committee would like
me to proceed?
11869. CHAIRMAN: Mr Elvin, have you got
a copy of this document?
11870. MR ELVIN: My Lord, I have the
additional ones dated May this year. What your clerk has handed
me is dated 31 January 2007. Mr Carpenter has whispered to us
what they are referring to are undertakings that were requested
on behalf of Spitalfields by Ms Jones when she presented
11871. MR CARPENTER: No, I am sorry,
they are not. I am sorry.
11872. MR ELVIN: My Lord, I am not going
to confuse matters. Clearly we are looking at the wrong document
and unless the Petitioner can identify it, I cannot assist. If
someone tells me what it is I may recognise it.
11873. CHAIRMAN: It was presented to
a Select Committee on 31 January 2007.
11874. MS KHELA: Yes, that is correct.
11875. CHAIRMAN: It must have been in
the House of Commons.
11876. MR ELVIN: That was presented to
the Commons. If it is that which is being referred to, I have
a copy of it.
11877. CHAIRMAN: That is what I think
Ms Khela is talking about. We know what the House of Commons said
about that.
11878. MR ELVIN: I am sorry. Mr Carpenter
gave us an alternative version and I apologise for confusing matters.
I will stick to 31 January 2007.
11879. MS KHELA: If I may be permitted
to read through the reasons why we are requesting these.
