Memorandum by Jean-Luc Demarty, Director
General for Agriculture and Rural Development, European Commission
Thank you for your letter dated 3 May 2007,
addressed to Commissioners Dimas, Grybauskaite, Mandelson, Michel
and Fischer Boel, in which you invite the Commission to submit
evidence to the House of Lords Inquiry into the Future of the
Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Mrs Fischer Boel has asked me
to answer on the Commissioners' behalf.
It is the intention of the Commission to adopt,
towards the end of 2007, a Communication assessing the evolution
of the CAP, in particular those issues relating to the 2003 Reform
Health Check.
Since this Communication will address most,
if not all, of the topics you have identified, and will reflect
the collegiate views of the Commission, we would ask you to consider
that Communication as the written contribution from the Commission.
Furthermore, the CAP will be part of the review covering all aspects
of EU spending on which the Commission will report in 2008-09.
