Prayers were read by the Lord Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham Private Business 1 Transport for London Bill [HL] The bill was reported from the Unopposed Bill Committee with amendments. A Special Report was made and ordered to be printed. (HL Paper 70) Public Business 2 Parents: flexible working A question was asked by the Lord Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham and answered by Lord Truscott. 3 Zimbabwe: governance A question was asked by Baroness D’Souza and answered by Lord Triesman. 4 European Union: Article 308 A question was asked by Lord Pearson of Rannoch and answered by Baroness Scotland of Asthal. 5 Iraq: security A question was asked by Lord Dykes and answered by Lord Triesman. 6 Business of the House The Lord President (Baroness Amos) moved that Standing Order 47 (No two stages of a Bill to be taken on one day) be dispensed with on Monday 19 March to allow the Consolidated Fund (Appropriation) Bill and the Income Tax Bill to be taken through their remaining stages that day. The motion was agreed to. 7 Business of the House The Lord President (Baroness Amos) moved that the debate on the motion in the name of Lord King of Bridgwater set down for today shall be limited to 5 hours. The motion was agreed to. 8 Sub judice A statement on the waiver of the sub judice rule was made by the Lord Speaker in connection with the court martial case R. v. Payne & Others. 9 Armed Forces (5-hour debate) Lord King of Bridgwater moved for papers relating to the state of the armed forces of the Crown. (SR115) Page 337 2006-07 Volume 240 Back to topJudicial Business 1 Fourie (Appellant) v Le Roux and others (Respondents) Further to the Order of the House of Wednesday 24 January 2007 (9th Report Session 2006-07; [2007] UKHL 1) it was ordered that the appellant do pay or cause to be paid to the respondents 75 per cent of their costs in Her Majesty’s Court of Appeal, the amount of such costs to be determined by a Costs Judge if not agreed between the parties, and 75 per cent of their costs in this House, the amount of such costs to be certified by the Clerk of the Parliaments if not agreed between the parties; and that there be no order that the appellant make any payment on account to the respondents. 2 Brown (Petitioner) v London Borough of Croydon and another (Respondents) The petition of Everald Brown praying for leave to appeal was presented and referred to an Appeal Committee (lodged 26 February). 3 R (on the application of Barnett) (Petitioner) v Central London County Court (Respondents) The petition of Michael Barnett praying for leave to appeal was presented without payment of the fee, such fee having been waived by the Appeal Committee pursuant to Standing Order XIII; the said petition was referred to an Appeal Committee. 4 Appeal Committee The 31st Report from the Appeal Committee was agreed to and the following Order was made: Lonsdale (t/a Lonsdale Agencies) (Appellant) v Howard & Hallam Limited (Respondents) That the petition of the Winemakers’ Federation of Australia Inc that they might be heard or otherwise intervene in the said appeal be allowed.
